So that’s the money spent, but how does it become money invested, well the next two questions are what help to achieve this and they are too often the ones that are overlooked. They are, “So, what are you now going to do differently?” and “How will that measurably improve the effectiveness of our business?”
It is the area around training that the vast majority of people miss. They go on a training day unclear as to why and what their goals are for being there, then after the course there is little follow up or ongoing coaching, they do little if anything differently and even when they do, seldom does it become a long term behaviour. Action and Implementation plans setting concrete and measurable goals, are what enable people to see the impact of their new behaviour / activity. This in turn motivates them to try more new things and so you create continuous development and surpass your goals.
